MANILA, Philippines – As the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) four-point shot continues to draw mixed reactions from basketball fans, Washington Wizards star Kyle Kuzma gave the league’s newest innovation his seal of approval.

Kuzma, who is currently in Manila for a short visit, is known for his deadly outside shooting, especially during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he helped the franchise win the championship in 2020 alongside superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

“Yeah, 100%, I think it’s good for the game,” said Kuzma of the four-point shot during his media availability at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati on Monday, August 26.

“It allows more space. At the end of the day, a lot of us shoot deep threes anyway.”

The PBA’s implementation of the four-point shot is now in full swing, with Meralco Bolts guard Chris Banchero hitting the first-ever basket from the four-point line, which is 27 feet away from the ring.

“A lot of us can shoot from that far. I think it’ll be more dramatic in the NBA (National Basketball Association) and fans will probably like it, too,” said Kuzma, who averaged a career-best 22.2 points last NBA season.

“Steph [Curry] would probably get more points,” the sharpshooting forward added with a smile.

The 29-year-old Kuzma said he had always wanted to come to the Philippines. He thanked his passionate Filipino fans who continued to shower him with love.

“Like I said, this is my first time being here. Unbelievable reception and love coming here and I’ve always wanted to come here,” said Kuzma, who played for the Lakers from 2017 to 2021, before getting traded to the Wizards.

“This is incredible. Just the love here is amazing. I truly, truly appreciate it and I am excited to see a lot more to come.” – Rappler.com
