President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 28, 4 pm, at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
This SONA, Marcos’ fourth in his six-year term, comes on the heels of the Supreme Court decision barring the impeachment proceedings against the President’s ally-turned-nemesis, Vice President Sara Duterte.
It also follows the May 2025 midterm elections, seen as a proxy war between the feuding Marcos and Duterte families, where the President’s anointed senatorial candidates lost big.
Parts of the country are still reeling from massive floods and landslides triggered by recent tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon as well, hence the call for a “toned-down” SONA event, without the usual “show of pageantry,” as 19th Congress Speaker Martin Romualdez puts it.
