MANILA, Philippines – The best two words in sports: Game Seven.
All knotted up once again at 3-3 in their best-of-seven finals, Barangay Ginebra and TNT battle it out one last time for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup crown at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday, March 28.
Facing a do-or-die situation, the Tropang Giga lived to fight another day after hacking out a nail-biting 87-83 Game 6 win over the Gin Kings in front of a huge crowd at the Big Dome on Wednesday, March 26.
After struggling mightily from the field in Games 4 and 5, Best Import of the Conference Rondae Hollis-Jefferson rediscovered his touch for TNT just in time as he posted 29 points on 10-of-21 shooting, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.
Rey Nambatac also came to play for the Tropang Giga, backstopping Hollis-Jefferson with 23 points on an efficient 9-of-14 field goal clip.
But the biggest surprise for TNT in Game 6 was its temperamental center Poy Erram, who stepped up big with 14 points, firing 10 of those in the fourth and final period alone.
As the Tropang Giga shoot for their second straight title this season, all eyes will be on Hollis-Jefferson once more as he also goes for his third PBA championship — all at the expense of his counterpart Justin Brownlee and the rest of the Gin Kings.
Meanwhile, expect an extra motivated Brownlee — who fired a team-best 22 points on a near-perfect 9-of-10 shooting in Game 6 — as he looks to finally get one over Hollis-Jefferson and lead the Gin Kings to their first title since the 2022-2023 Commissioner’s Cup.
Additionally, a win by Ginebra will make Brownlee the most successful import in PBA history with a record seven championships, breaking his tie with legendary Alaska reinforcement Sean Chambers.
