MANILA, Philippines – Education Secretary Sonny Angara said on Wednesday, March 12, that free LinkedIn courses for teachers focused on professional development can be used for promotion.

“Yes to professional advancement, yes to crediting, and yes to upskilling and lifelong learning,” Angara said when asked if the courses would be credited to teachers and contribute to their promotion.

He added that the advantage of LinkedIn courses is that teachers have the freedom to choose which ones they want to enroll in.

“Because in the past, the teachers didn’t really have a choice as to what they were going to be trained in.
They were told that they were trained here, that they were good. Now, there’s so much autonomy for them,” Angara said.

On Wednesday, the Department of Education (DepEd) formalized its partnership with LinkedIn to address the country’s “educational and professional challenges.”

“This partnership aims to provide over 200,000 public school teachers with scaled access to LinkedIn Learning courses, mapped to the Philippines Professional Standards for Educators,” LinkedIn said in a press release.

The courses cover various competencies, including creative thinking, data analytics, and digital skills, as the “country undergoes rapid digitalization driven by AI.”

LinkedIn said its partnership with the DepEd will empower teachers to “stay relevant, become more productive and efficient in daily tasks, and deliver a higher quality of education in the classroom.” – Rappler.com
