BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Every year, when Session Road in Bloom kicks off, locals joke that it’s nothing but a shawarma festival.
But let’s set the record straight — out of 400 stalls, only eight are selling shawarma. The rest? A glorious mix of homegrown flavors, arts, crafts, and culture, proving once again that Panagbenga wouldn’t be complete without a stroll down Session — now transformed into a one-week open-air fiesta.
For those who grew up with Panagbenga, Session Road in Bloom is a non-negotiable stop. From February 24 to March 2, Baguio’s busiest street is closed to traffic, making way for a walkable paradise of food, music, performances, and artisan showcases.
Started in the early 2000s, this event was meant to highlight local businesses, showcase Cordilleran craftsmanship, and let everyone enjoy alfresco dining in Baguio’s crisp air.
Over the years, it has become a staple of the festival experience — one where people come to eat, shop, people-watch, and, let’s be honest, complain about the crowd before coming back the next day anyway.
If you think Session Road in Bloom is just about skewered street food, think again. This year’s lineup features some of the well-loved mainstays that keep us coming back year after year. There’s Alabanza’s Longganisa, a garlicky favorite that has become a festival essential, and Solibao’s Ilocos Empanada, crispy, golden, and impossible to resist.
Beyond the food, Session is also a showcase of local craftsmanship, from the finely carved woodwork of Asin Road to an array of handmade art and handicrafts — including paintings, woven textiles, jewelry, kitchenware, and even custom-made shoes.
It’s a mix of flavors, artistry, and tradition that makes Session Road in Bloom more than just a food trip — it’s a celebration of Baguio’s finest.
And yes, shawarma is there, too, because really, we love it. But the variety of offerings proves that Session Road in Bloom is far from just a kebab fest.

Session Road in Bloom isn’t just about food. It’s also a stage for creativity and culture. Throughout the week, the street transforms into a dynamic open-air theater, with every corner offering something to see, hear, and experience.
Festivalgoers can witness the bold and artistic designs of the Creative Street Fashion Show by De Stijl Image Reinvented, while the University of the Cordilleras Dance Ensemble brings high-energy performances to the street.
Ballet Baguio adds a touch of grace and elegance with their stunning routines, and The Edralins Band provides a live soundtrack to the festivities with their music.
Meanwhile, the Marikina Dance Guild and Cultural Group showcase their rich traditions through movement, proving that Session Road in Bloom is just as much about the arts as it is about the eats.

Session Road in Bloom is open until March 2, so whether you’re coming for the food, the arts, or just to say “ang daming tao” (too crowded) while taking selfies, now’s the time to experience it.
And the next time someone says, “Puro shawarma na lang” (it’s just all shawarma), tell them that we checked, and it’s just a small (but delicious) part of it.
Happy Panagbenga!
