MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines’ Angelica Lopez ends her Miss International 2024 journey during the pageant’s coronation night on Tuesday, November 12 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Japan, falling short of the top 20.
Lopez — who is from Palawan — had thanked supporters, prior to the coronation night, for being with her on this journey. She said:
“Your unwavering support means everything to me. Thank you for believing in my journey — together, we shine brighter! In the heart of every supporter lies the strength to uplift a dreamer. This is for you all my kababayan (my countrymen), this is for the Philippines. Mahal ko kayo (I love you). Mabuhay!”
Lopez’s National Costume during the preliminaries was a dazzling tribute to The Philippines’ Pearl of the Orient Seas, designed by Patrick Isorena.
“Made from thousands of meticulously placed pearls and crystals, it forms a breathtaking national costume that captures the essence of the Philippines,” she wrote on Instagram. She said that the costume pays homage to the age-old art of pearl diving that the Philippines is renowned for.
Lopez won the Binibining Pilipinas International crown in May 2023. She was aiming to take home the country’s 7th Miss International crown.
According to Lopez’s Binibining Pilipinas page, the beauty queen’s interests include music, arts, inspirational books, and documentary series. Her role models are her mother and manager.
Lopez’s advocacy involves her “pursuit of inspiring, empowering, and educating the less fortunate children to be resilient and limitless amidst life challenges.”
She succeeded Nicole Borromeo, who finished as the 3rd runner-up the previous year.
The last time that the Philippines missed the top 20 was at Miss International 2017, wherein the country was represented by Maria Angelica de Leon. – Rappler.com
