MANILA, Philippines – Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, November 6, congratulated projected US presidential race winner Donald Trump, Malacañang said in a statement.
“President Trump has won, and the American people triumphed, and I congratulate them for their victory in an exercise which showed the world the strength of American values. We look forward to working with President Trump on a wide range of issues that will yield mutual benefits to two nations with deep ties, shared beliefs, common vision, and a long history of working together,” Marcos said.
Marcos, who was elected Philippine chief executive in 2022, said that he had met Trump “as a young man.”
“So I know that his robust leadership will result in a better future for all of us,” he said.
“I am hopeful that this unshakeable alliance, tested in war and peace, will be a force of good that will blaze a path of prosperity and amity, in the region, and in both sides of the Pacific. This is a durable partnership the Philippines is fully committed to because it is founded on the ideals we share: freedom and democracy,” Marcos added.
Trump earlier claimed victory, as major US news networks and sites called the battleground state Pennsylvania for him. He has already won two swing states — North Carolina and Georgia — and is poised to win other swing states, based on media projections.
The Philippines is a treaty-ally of the United States. Bilateral ties between the Philippines and the US have been on “hyperdrive” since Marcos ascended to power, a shift in direction from the previous Rodrigo Duterte administration.
